This project seeks to develop and validate a hybrid storage system, which combines lithium-ion batteries and ultracapacitors, with management through a specific control system. It will be connected to the Lanzarote-Fuerteventura electrical grid, operating in synchronous grid-forming mode, with a power of 16 MW and 3.45 MWh of storage capacity.

Objective

  • Development and full-scale validation of a hybrid storage system that combines lithium-ion batteries and ultracapacitors whose management is carried out through a specific control system that allows it to operate in grid mode -synchronous forming (InMS® by HESStec).

The project

The new storage system will be connected to the high voltage transmission network in the Lanzarote-Fuerteventura electrical system, specifically at the Mácher 66 kV substation, and will operate as an integrated network asset, providing a wide variety of services to guarantee the safe operation of the electrical system and the increase in the integration of renewable energies.

The proposed system has a power of 16 MW (18.8 MVA maximum apparent power) and 3.45 MWh of energy storage capacity.
